I’m an Amsterdam-based science journalist who primarily covers science, human health, and sustainability, but also anything that catches my eye. I’m naturally nosy — or rather, curious— and journalism allows me to explore the many questions I have.

I was born without a sense of smell, and have used my journalistic expertise to investigate the state of smell loss research and potential diagnostic tools. But I’ve also written about people who cannot burp, how scientists can use Reddit to their advantage, and whether vending machines really kill more people than sharks (spoiler alert: they don’t). I’ve covered moms who unironically like Minions, waxed poetic about the generational appeal of ABBA, and explored the Offline Club movement in the Netherlands. Perhaps my proudest moment is when I got to talk to Shrek (Mike Myers) for a feature on the sequel’s legacy.

My work has appeared in The Guardian, Nature Careers, Slate, The Washington Post, National Geographic, Scientific American, and more. When I’m not writing, I’m running the homepage at Slate Magazine.
